The Simple Key To Overcoming Your Burnout
The reason we get burned out as humans often comes down to one thing.
I can sense it in you.
That feeling of overwhelming nothingness.
That pervasive desire to just stop trying.
No matter how much motivation or excitement you muster up, you just can’t keep going.
That feeling oozing from your skin is called burnout.
You’re feeling burnt out and you’re ready to give up.
Okay maybe you’re not feeling that way, but I definitely am.
And that’s okay.
We all feel burnt out at some point in time.
And the more you dedicate yourself to progress and achievement, the more likely you’ll want to just call it quits one day.
But that’s not happening on my watch.
Because there’s so much more left in you to give.
And the world, your team, your family, and your supporters need you.
So screw that burnout!
You can and will persevere.
Because I’m going to share with you the simple key to overcoming your burnout.
The reason we get burned out as humans often comes down to one thing.
Purpose.
It’s easy to do a really hard task one time just for shits and giggles.
But it’s hard to do a really easy task a thousand times with no purpose.
Us humans we need to know why.
And not just know.
We need to really understand why we do the things that we do.
So when it comes to you going to the gym everyday, you’ll stop eventually if you don’t know why you’re doing it.
When it comes to showing up to a job everyday, it’s not going to happen unless you have specific bills or financial goals you’re focused on.
When it comes to posting on Twitter every other day, if you don’t remember why you’ll get lost in the sauce and never come back.
We need to know why.
And most of our why’s are really easy to see when we start out.
You want to make a million dollars, lose 100 pounds, propose to your gf, etc.
But what happens is over time, you lose that vision.
If you send 100 people out on a cross country road trip with no map or GPS, you can expect 99 people to head back home without reaching their original destination.
And that’s not because they don’t have the will or desire.
It’s because the farther they venture, the harder it is to remember where they were headed.
In others, they got lost.
So the key for us to avoid getting lost in our work and feeling burnt out is to remember our journey.
If the journey to success takes 1000 steps, you need to cherish each and every one of them.
You have to take the time to go back and remember all that you’ve done to get you where you are.
This has worked well for me with writing.
I written so many emails, posts, and articles.
It was getting a little pointless.
But then I went back to read some of my old posts.
To see some of the old value I shared.
To see how many people have read, commented and reshared my work.
And that’s when I remembered what I’m doing and why I’m doing it.
When’s the last time you looked back at your achievements on your journey to success?
Do you remember the things you celebrated last year?
Do you smile at the things you cherished five years ago?
Do you admire the first steps you took at the beginning of your journey?
If not, you should.
That’s how you beat burnout.
The challenge of life is a challenge of staying power.
And burnout is the number one enemy.
So don’t let comparisons, doubts, and lack of recognition influence you to quit.
Give attention and personal recognition to your past efforts.
That’s how you’ll push past any amount of burnout.
Because the infinite game is the only one really worth playing.
And you’re already in the lead…
In progress,
Tim
